Von Mitte April bis Mitte November 2025 ist die von Armin Guerino entworfene Ingeborg-Bachmann-Kuppel mit ihren 288 verspiegelten Buchdeckeln, als Symbol für Zeit, Literatur und Reflexion Teil des offiziellen Programms der  Europäischen Kulturhauptstadt Nova Gorica. 
 
Die Kuppel wird von zwölf Säulen getragen, um die sich beidseitig verspiegelte Tore drehen. Die Spiegeltore können den Raum öffnen oder umfangen. Die Kuppel setzt sich aus zwölf Segmenten, die mit ihren Innen- und Außenseiten für die Stunden des Tages und der Nacht stehen zusammen.
 
Sie wird unweit der „EPIC - European Platform for Interpretation of the 20th Century“, dem Europaplatz und dem Bahnhof eine neu geschaffene Arena bespielen. 
 
Eine permanente Tonspur in slowenischer, italienischer, deutscher und englischer Sprache in der Kuppel wird thematisch eine Verbindung mit dem Ort herstellen. Die Kulturhauptstadt GO! 2025 und das Land Kärnten mit der Kärntner Kulturstiftung laden Protagonist:innen ein, die Ingeborg-Bachmann-Kuppel zu aktivieren und ein vielseitiges Programm zu gestalten.
 
Die Ingeborg-Bachmann-Kuppel ist eine begeh- und bespielbare Skulptur, die sich als Hommage an ihre Namensgeberin in den öffentlichen Raum stellt. Als „Sonde“ detektiert sie die Strömungen der Gegenwart und wird zum Begegnungsort unterschiedlicher Kunstformen. Als „Kulturbotschafterin“ landet sie an relevanten Orten und fordert zur Interaktion auf. 

Die Ingeborg-Bachmann-Kuppel bietet einen Reflexionsraum für die dem Menschen zugemessene Zeit. Sie fragmentiert mit ihren Spiegeln die scheinbare Realität und weist mit ihren optischen Umbrüchen auf das noch Unbekannte. Sie lädt ein, die Wirklichkeit neu zu sehen.

Tonspur in der Kuppel 

Entsprechend dem Thema BORDERLESS wird die Tonspur in der Ingeborg-Bachmann-Kuppel Grenzen aufweichen. Die Kuppel lädt dazu ein, einen neuen Blick auf Gewohntes zu werfen. Ebenso will die genre- und sprachübergreifende Tonspur akustisch zur Auseinandersetzung mit der Region und ihrer Mehrsprachigkeit anregen. 
 Basierend auf Textfragmenten von Ingeborg Bachmann wird ein Text- und Soundteppich ins visuelle Erleben der Kuppel integriert, der sich zwischen Grenzen und vor allem über diese hinausbewegt. 

Die Soundcollage bewegt sich zwischen den Sprachen und zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft. Beginnend bei der Natur der Region werden Bögen mit Fragen in die Vergangenheit und Hoffnung für die Zukunft gespannt, bis zum Kern – der auch im Sinne der namengebenden Autorin des Projekts gewesen wäre, den sie aber nicht mehr erleben konnte: der Idee eines grenzenlosen Europas in dem wir alle in Frieden und Freiheit leben. 

Bei der Lesung im Tonstudio werden Nachrichtentexte  als historische Eckpfeiler eingefügt und einige Textpassagen authentisch von verschiedenen Personen in Alltagssprache eingefügt um die Stimmung eines Bahnhofs zu imitieren. So vermischt sich die Tonspur mit dem Sound der Stadt.

From mid-April to mid-November 2025, the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome, designed by Armin Guerino, with its 288 mirrored book covers, will be part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica. It serves as a symbol for time, literature, and reflection.

The dome is supported by twelve columns, around which mirrored gates rotate on both sides. The mirrored gates can open or embrace the space. The dome is made up of twelve segments, each representing the hours of the day and night with their inner and outer surfaces.

It will be located near the “EPIC - European Platform for Interpretation of the 20th Century,” the European Square, and the train station, in a newly created arena.

A permanent soundtrack in Slovenian, Italian, German, and English will thematically connect the dome with its location. The European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 and the state of Carinthia, with the Carinthian Cultural Foundation, invite protagonists to activate the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome and create a versatile program.

The Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome is a walkable and interactive sculpture, standing in public space as a tribute to its namesake. As a “probe,” it detects the currents of the present and becomes a meeting place for various art forms. As a “cultural ambassador,” it lands in relevant locations and invites interaction.

The Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome provides a space for reflection on the time allotted to humans. Its mirrors fragment the apparent reality and, with optical ruptures, point to the unknown. It invites people to see reality in a new way.

Soundtrack in the Dome
In line with the theme BORDERLESS, the soundtrack in the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome will dissolve boundaries. The dome invites visitors to look at the familiar from a new perspective. The genre- and language-crossing soundtrack also aims to stimulate reflection on the region and its multilingualism.
Based on text fragments by Ingeborg Bachmann, a tapestry of text and sound will be integrated into the visual experience of the dome, moving between borders and, above all, beyond them.
The sound collage moves between languages and between the past and the future. Beginning with the nature of the region, arcs of questions are drawn into the past and hopes for the future, leading to the core—an idea that would have been meaningful to the namesake author of the project but which she was not able to experience: the idea of a borderless Europe where we all live in peace and freedom.
During the reading in the sound studio, news texts will be inserted as historical landmarks, and some text passages will be authentically added by different people in everyday language to mimic the atmosphere of a train station. In this way, the soundtrack will blend with the sound of the city.
